Choosing between Ajwa and Sukkary or scheduling quality time with your spouse are our favorite kind of dates – easy and fun! Choosing which dates to book hotels and flights for thousands of Guests and all the prep and planning that goes into Hajj – not so easy!
When designing and planning our Hajj packages we have to reference 3 separate calendars, ISNA, Umm ul Qura and the Moonsighting (Hijri) calendar. We meticulously plan whilst taking into consideration any possible Hijri changes. Thankfully, this year, all three calendars are in sync and Dhul-Qadah (abbreviated as DQ), the month immediately preceding the month of Hajj, is agreed to be 29 days and that is what our Hajj 2019 programs are based upon.
Here is where it gets more complicated… Two years ago, in order to synchronise with the Gregorian calendar to reduce the reliance on the uncertainty of moonsighting and unify the process for hotels and airlines to ease operations, the authorities rolled out a new rule, that DQ will be 30 days long and this means that the Hujjaj will not be effected by when the 1st of Dhul-Hijjah (abbreviated as DH) will be, but rather when the first day of Hajj (8DH) might be as everything runs according to the Gregorian calendar until 7DH. (did we lose you yet, don’t worry we got lost multiple times along the way…) This rule was implemented in its entirety in 2017, which made planning very easy, however, in 2018 it was implemented by the hotels and the Ministry of Hajj but not by the airlines and Civil Aviation Authority. There was some confusion to say the least!
The question now is what do we do for Hajj 2019? Based on our vast experience and the result of consulting various authorities, we at Dar El Salam Travel have decided to follow the Umm Ul Qura calendar which is 29 days, due to it being the most universally adopted Islamic calendar, however, if in the near future the authorities decide that they want to implement the 30 day DQ rule, we will update our itinerary accordingly and make the necessary arrangements to minimize any disruptions to our pilgrims.
Planning for Hajj is very complicated and there are a lot of moving parts. We at Dar El Salam Travel understand how special this journey is and the importance of pilgrims being spiritually focused throughout the trip. That’s why over 100,000 customers have trusted us to plan their Hajj journey. No matter how complicated it gets, rest assured that we have you covered and we will take care of everything to get you the most out of this journey of a lifetime. May Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala help us all to gain His pleasure!
