ketchikan_alaska_1984x14881Ketchikan, Alaska

Ketchikan, Alaska is truly the beginning of the last frontier – set at the southernmost entrance to Alaska’s famed Inside Passage – a network of waterways that snake through some of the most jaw-droppingly beautiful wilderness in the world. It best known for three things: feisty salmon (known as the ‘Salmon Capital or the World’), idyllic scenery and an incredibly rich Native Alaskan culture.  It is home to rich wildlife including black and brown bears, wolves andbald eagles to name a few.

Misty Fjords National Monument is one of the area’s major attractions, is the largest wilderness in Alaska’s national forest and second largest in the nation.  Blue glacial lakes, tall waterfalls and snow-capped peaks surround visitors as they get lost in its beauty.

It is also the ancestral home of the Tlingit people, who have carved the world’s largest collection of Native American totem poles. If you’re up for an adventure, take a canoe and nature trail excursion through the rain forest or a wilderness exploration followed by a sumptuous crab feast you can’t resist.

Juneau, Alaska

Here’s your chance to take a glacial dogsled adventure via helicopter in Alaska’s capital. A city that gracefully balances frontier ruggedness with cosmopolitan flair. The city’s most popular attraction, Mendenhall Glacier, a river of ice measuring 1.5 miles in width and over 6 miles in length, is part of Juneau’s Icefield, 1500 square miles of ice that feeds 38 glaciers and ready for you to take a float trip on it.

There are several hiking trails with the most popular being the Photo-Overlook Trail and the Nugget Falls Trail.  It is an opportunity to see brown and black bears feasting on the variety of salmon alternatively you may want to take one of the whale-watching tours which are particularly popular here and allow you to see the diverse marine life in the area, including Stellar Sea Lions, Dall’s Porpoise, Killer Whales and Humpback Whales.

Tracy Arm Fjord, Alaska (Sawyer Glaciers)

About 45 miles south of Juneau, the Tracy Arm Fjord is book-ended by two of Alaska’s most dramatic glaciers, the North and South Sawyer, and surrounded by granite walls that rise 3,000 feet from the emerald colored seas – this area has everything you’ve come to Alaska to experience!

The North and South Sawyer Glaciers are tidewater glaciers at the end of the Tracy Arm Fjord and are active glaciers, meaning that chunks of ice, varying from the size of a small vehicle to a cruise ship fall off the face of the glacier and hit the water with a thunderous roar. Glory be to The Creator!

Alaska Inside Passage

Shaped by the staggering force of massive glaciers millions of year ago, you’ll sail beyond the Inside Passage into the more protected Alaska Inside Passage; this route is a complex labyrinth of fjords and bays where whales and sea lions find refuge during the summer months. It is a sight unlike anything else, with untouched wilderness, huge glaciers and mountains coupled with amazing wildlife.

Skagway, Alaska

The great Klondike Gold Rush lives on in Skagway’s charming downtown of restored 19th-century buildings and its historic railway. From the vintage train, admire the mountains and see the 1898 trail that fortune seekers traveled on foot. The White Pass & Yukon Route Railroad runs vintage locomotives past the famously steep Chilkoot Trail and offers sweeping mountain views during its climb toward Canada.

You only need to take one step into Skagway to realize you are in a place of unsurpassed beauty and amongst the best ways to experience this is to go for a hike or a guided trail on horseback.

A Day at Sea

With so much to take in, so many exhilarating and inspiring sights and activities, take this day as an opportunity to relax and reflect. With all that you have witnessed and experienced – the huge mountains and glaciers, the beauty of the towering trees of the forest, or the spectacular sights of the wild and marine life and much more – it is an opportunity to show gratitude to Allah SWT, He who blessed you with this opportunity to gaze in awe at His creation.

You can take advantage of the splendid amenities that this luxurious cruise ship has to offer or just rest up as we sail to our next destination.

Victoria, British Columbia

Victoria is the capital of British Columbia and also its largest island. The oldest city in the Pacific Northwest, this former British colony has retained much of its colonial splendor – be sure to visit the impressive colonial-era landmarks, architecture and venues with deep ties to the British Royal family.

The year-round mild, coastal climate, great for gardening and all things flower-focused, has enabled the city to be known as the ‘City of Gardens’ due to dozens of stately parks and gardens throughout the city and Greater Victoria.

Visit the world-class Royal BC Museum, tour 125-year-old heritage buildings or explore the diverse marine wildlife along the coast or wander through the floral Butchart Gardens.  However you choose to spend your time in Victoria, it will be a truly memorable experience.

Seattle, Washington

The last stop on what promises to be a thrilling, awe-inspiring, take-your-breath-away and knock-your-socks-off week.  A last opportunity to buy some souvenirs or gifts or take part in activities that you may have missed at the start of the trip.

This journey ends here, but the memories will live on forever.  As you return to your friends and families, excitedly sharing with them your experiences and pictures, be sure to take a moment and reflect on the fact that Allah blessed you with this opportunity to marvel at some of His magnificent creation.  Take this experience and allow it to draw you closer to Him as you reflect on His Glory and Power.
